The father of the Kolkata doctor who was raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College has alleged that he was forced to cremate his daughter's body under pressure from the police. The family and relatives of the 31-year-old woman joined the late-night agitation outside the state-run hospital on Wednesday.
Speaking to reporters, the victim's father claimed that upon returning home with the body, around 300-400 police officers surrounded their residence, creating an atmosphere of intimidation. "We wanted the body preserved, but were forced to cremate her under pressure," he said. He also mentioned that the cremation took place in haste, without the family being asked to cover any costs.
The victim's aunt further alleged that police officers offered the family money while they were grieving at home.
"When the body of the daughter was lying in front of the parents in the house, the police were offering money, is this the humanity of the police?" said the aunt of the deceased doctor.
State cabinet minister Shashi Panja has denied saying 'a rumour is being spread with a negative agenda'.
